2022 - 2023 Events

Girraween Primary Field Day

March 2023
1. "Breeds for Juniors". Two juniors spoke about their chosen breeds (Jett Miniter spoke about Pekins; Billy Watts spoke about Silkies) and a couple of adults spoke about Belgian d'Uccles, bantam Australian Langshan and Indian Game. This was in preparation for two new classes in the club's annual show: Junior Handler Class. One class was for juniors aged 7-11 years; the other was for juniors aged 12-17 years. Check the links for more information.
2. Bunnings pet "expo". We had chicks hatching in an incubator, plus older chicks and poults to handle. Jacquie Deveraux and her Mum Sue also came prepared with "blown" eggs for children to decorate, as Easter was soon after.

1. A workshop on "Show Preparation/Handling Birds". It was well-attended and a few juniors (and their parents) got to practise washing and preparing their birds for the forthcoming shows.

December 2022
The Darwin & Rural Poultry Club was one of many community groups to participate in Bunnings' Community Christmas market. We had a guessing competition ("Guess the Weight of the Turkey") as a fundraiser for the club. We're raising funds so that we can build new exhibition cages and also for airfares for one of our club members (Jacquie Deveraux) to fly to Adelaide for judge training next year. We're hosting a Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 28 January 2023 also as a fundraiser for these important goals.
